Thank you to Jamie Koon, Siva Natarajan, Adelaide Pangmanan and Jean Myer for helping mark the course Friday night and a BIG thanks to Steve and Paula Boone for supplying the snacks and the awesome finisher medals…recycled from the Texas Marathon! You can’t get more Fat Ass than recycled medals!!
The August 10th FatAsstic Challenge in the Ho 6hr Trail Run (FACitHO) was a great success! We had a record 53 official finishers, a few spectators, a few drop-ins who came by to give their support and a most importantly a great set of volunteers! Not too bad of a turn out for an event in the middle of August that only advertised on its YahooGroup and Facebook.
The temperatures hovered in the mid 80s with 80% humidity (felt like 100%) at the 5AM start to a 100% chance of thunderstorm – which helped cool things off, but in turn turned the trails into a mud slide. The course was marked with flour arrows at all the intersections/turns and the event was ‘cupless’, with everyone needed to supply their own drinking vessels for refills at the aid station and carrying a water bottle during the 5-mile loop was highly advised. Runners/walkers had the option of running the loops clock-wise or counter-clock-wise – their choice.
In this event everyone who participated was a winner. In the spirit of a Fat Ass, the top finishers are not those who ran the fastest, but those who ran for the longest time and/or completed the most loops. Completing the most loops was Juan Morales who burned up the trail and completed 30 miles (6 loops) in 5:15hrs. Awesome job! Hugo Sanchez and Q Duong tied for 25 miles (5 loops) in 5:51hrs and they also share the prestigious title of ‘Most Time out on the Trails’, also completing this distance was Jose Guerrero in 5:17hrs.

Steve Tom completed 20 miles (4 loops) in 4:52hrs and five other runners also reached the 20 mile threshold.

The 15 mile (3 loops) longest time on the trail goes to Steve Boone who performed a slip-n-slide to a finish in 5:04hrs! Fourteen other runners also completed the 15 mile distance.

The 10 mile (2 loops) honor goes to William Cox who completed the distance in 3:10hrs, spending the longest time out on the course out of 16 other runners who also went the same distance

The 5 mile (1 loop) recognition is awarded to Amy Hale who finished the loop in 1:39hrs her first time running in the dark through trails! Good job Amy! Ten other runners completed a single loop for the day.

The Hot & Sweaty version of the FACitHO was well received and we plan to have an encore performance in November…with a slight guarantee that it will be cooler! Thanks everyone for participating, meanwhile…enjoy the Ho and we hope to see you out on the trails soon!
